WPE Standardization of Technical and Commercial Protocols and Hardware
The main objective of this WP is to propose standards that will allow easy installation of micro sources with plug and play capabilities. Research will deal with standardisation of interfaces between the micro generator and the distribution network. Moreover, research will consider protocols for negotiating sales and purchase of electrical energy and ancillary services, access to network, communicating status and control data between components of the system, dealing with faults and abnormal conditions, etc.
Like any other new product or system, Microgrid technology penetration in the electrical market will strongly depend on the ability to overcome current technical and commercial barriers. EU standardisation at several levels is paramount in this process to fully realise the Microgrid benefits and to avoid negative impacts on system reliability and safety.
First, standards supporting the certification of the different MicroGrid equipment (generators, inverters, control and protection devices, etc.) must be prepared and harmonised all over the EU. Second, the connection requirements of the DG equipment to the Microgrid and the Microgrid itself to a wider network must be established. And finally, standardised tests must be formulated for the installation evaluation and even for periodic assessment.

Description of work :

TE1 - DG classifications and existing standards
TE2 - Grid code requirements for Microgrids
TE3 - Interface equipment requirements
TE4 - Operation & control requirements for Microgrids
TE5 - Operation & control requirements for Multi-Microgrids
TE6 - Information contents: Data structures
TE7 - Mapping of IEC61850 to different communication procedures

Deliverables
There is a deliverable produced after every task summarising the results of the performed work.
DE1 - Report on standards and grid code requirements applied to LV DG devices (month 12)
DE2 - Report on interface equipment requirements for LV DG devices (month 24)
DE3 - Specifications of management system operation and control requirements for Microgrids and Multi-Microgrids (month 24)
DE4 - Report on DG applied data structures and mapping to communication means (month 36)
