Work Package H : "Development of Laboratory MicroGrids"

Work Package Leader : ISET

Partners involved :  ICCS, SMA, URENCO, GERMANOS, INESC, UMIST, ARMINES ,EPRI

Objectives :

The principal function of a decentralised grid forming inverter, which is controlled just by setting the droops is implemented on the basis of the Sunny Island (SMA). The setting of the droops is not critical concerning time. This will be used to validate the controllers operation, developed in phases 2-4, in a scaled laboratory model. The DEMOTEC demonstration site available at ISET is a very well suited environment for demonstrating the results of the project, as a large variety of equipment, including inverters and rotating generators, is available.

A further test facility exists at UMIST, where a special flywheel of URENCO will be commissioned.

ARMINES has developed a test bed facility comprising  Diesel (3.2 kW), (PV 3 kW), Batteries (10 kWh), Load on a DC bus, a TRACE inverter connectable to the AC grid and a second test bed facility with PV, fuel cell and hydrogen storage. These test bed platforms can be also used for models validation and measurements.

A small laboratory MicroGrid will be set up at ICCS/NTUA.
