Pilot Microgrids

F8. F.Y.R.O.M - Kozuf Microgrid

Back

Location description

The Kozuf Microgrid should cover the electricity needs of a small sheepfold, located near the new ski-centre on Kozuf Mountain. The sheepfold owners, who are also involved in the ski-centre investment, have envisaged utilization of renewable energy sources for electricity supply for the sheepfold. Within the ski-centre project, there is also a Waste Water Treatment Project that will allow treatment of the ski centre municipal wastewater. Further on, the idea is to construct a pilot plant for biogas production which will accept the surplus sludge from the municipal waste water treatment plant, the biomass from the sheepfold as well as the waste water from a small diary production line which exists at the sheepfold. The plant will be constructed underground and located close to the sheepfold. The produced biogas will be used for electricity production, while the fermented waste will be composted and will be used as an organic fertilizer. The assessment of daily energy production from the biogas plant is given in the table below.

To meet the electricity needs of the sheepfold, utilization of additional RES (PV) is also envisaged.

Currently, the electricity for the sheepfold is provided by fuel generators, each of them with rated power of 5kW. One of the generators is kept as reserve and is activated only when needed.

The location is isolated, but a 35kV will be built to enable connection of the ski-centre to the grid. The project for constructing the 35kV line is already revised and the actual works should start in May 2007 finish in August the same year. Afterwards, the investors plan to build a connection from the sheepfold to the grid.
