TF6 - Field test on the transfer between interconnected and islanding mode (MVV)

The first overall goal of this pilot is to aggregate several DG sources (Fuel cell, µCHP, PV, battery, flywheel etc.) and controllable loads to an interconnected micro grid with islanding option within a small grid segment of the Mannheim electricity grid.

Due to a strong interest in investigating the interconnected mode with massive integration of DG and RES, MVVEnergie will test one of the control strategies which will be developed in the project in WPB. Because the selected test site will be no laboratory site but a "normal" segment of the grid, all tests must comply with the German grid quality standards and regulations. Main interest lies in the reliable communication. For safety reasons, a proof of correct communication (e.g. at a laboratory test sites in WPC and TF2 and TF3) is mandatory before the pilot starts.
It must be assured that the Microgrid central controller recognises if a grid disconnection is intended and necessary for maintenance or if it is due to blackout and the Microgrid shall continue the operation.
As a consequence, the tests will focus on

  • Technical functionality of the control strategies and corresponding components for different generation and load situations
  • Operation experiences
  • Monitoring of electric parameters (load, generation, grid quality)
  • Monitoring of heat parameters (load, generation)
  • Evaluation of cost
  • Evaluation of socio-economic and legal framework conditions which are necessary for micro grids

The successful monitoring experiences with pilot installations with DG components from DISPOWER will be applied and expanded based on project results.
